I have finished my first Classics Club list, although I have not yet reviewed all of the books. I’ll be reviewing the last one sometime this month, at which time I’ll post my second Classics Club list.
For a Classics Club spin, we post 20 books from our list and then a number is chosen, which determines the book we will read for the spin. Since I’ve finished my list, I will have to make up my spin list from my second, unposted list. So, here are my selections for the next spin, for which I will post a review by December 31.
- August Folly by Angela Thirkell
- The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster
- The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë
- Letters from Egypt by Lucie Duff-Gordon
- The Sea Hawk by Rafael Sabatini
- Mary Lavelle by Kate O’Brien
- The Lark by E. Nesbit (This is sort of cheating, because I have already read and reviewed this book, just not before I made up my second Classics Club list in June.)
- West with the Night by Beryl Markham
- Owls Do Cry by Janet Frame
- Edward II by Christopher Marlowe
- Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
- The Viscount de Bragelonne by Alexandre Dumas
- The Mystery of Mrs. Blencarrow by Mrs. Oliphant
- Kenilworth by Sir Walter Scott
- Oroonoko by Aphra Behn
- Madame de Treymes by Edith Wharton
- The Priory by Dorothy Whipple
- Consequences by E. M. Delafield
- Aurora Floyd by Mary Elizabeth Braddon
- Vanishing Cornwall by Daphne du Maurier
I hope you get West With the Night!
That would be a good one.
Ooh well done on finishing your first list! Mansfield Park would be my pick – can never go wrong with a bit of Austen!
I don’t really have a favorite this time. That’s one that I’ve read, but there are others I haven’t read that I’m curious about.
Good luck! I loved The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and The Sea Hawk so I would be hoping for one of those.
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall would be a reread, but I haven’t read The Seahawks yet.
I’m hoping for Madame de Treymes – I’ve never heard of that one!
I sort of picked it at random, because I wanted a book by Dumas, but I don’t know anything about it.
I’ve put Madame de Treymes on my TBR Pile Challenge list for next year, so I selfishly hope you get that one. Also I agree West with the Night is wonderful. Aurora Floyd is also a fun sensational read.
Oh,good. I know nothing about that one.
Wow…several of these I haven’t heard of! I’ll need to look them up 🙂 Excited for Nov. 17th and to see what we all get!
Yes, I always enjoy the spin.
I love your list because I don’t know many of the books. I am following you now,and I will come back to your blog for ideas.
Thanks!
Lovely that you’ll be reading Anne Brontë! I haven’t heard of most, but I hope you enjoy reading them 🙂
A lot of them came from the Persephone Press list.
wow, congrats on already finishing one round. I’m ashamed I have not read ANY of these titles. I have read a couple by Daphne, but not that one. My list is here: https://wordsandpeace.com/2017/11/08/the-classics-club-the-classics-spin-16/
I wish you Mansfield Park, because it doesn’t get much better than an Austen 🙂
That’s true.
Such a wonderful list! The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and West with the Night are both remarkable reads. The Priory and Mansfield Park (as a reread) are also on my spin list, while The Lark is on my main list. Happy reading!
Yes, we both have some good ones. I hope we both get a great book in the spin.
