A Century of Books Challenge

The challenge is complete! I finished the last book for it on April 27, 2025. I will continue to update this page with the links to the reviews until I have reviewed all the books.

Simon Thomas posted a challenge in early January 2024 for himself. He is going to read a book a year for 100 years, those being 1925-2024. I decided, insanely enough, to try to join him, so this is my page for keeping track of my progress. My goal for the year 2024 is to read a book published in each year listed. I think that Simon just lists one book for each year, but I chose to list every book I read until I finished the challenge. In some cases, I located and read a book specifically for the challenge only to find that in the interim I had already read a book for that year.

Unfortunately, too early to qualify for the challenge, The Book of Dede Korkut by Anonymous from the 12th or 13th century, Hero and Leander by Christopher Marlowe from 1598, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen from 1811, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen in 1813, Merkland: Scenes from Scottish Life by Margaret Oliphant from 1851, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs, The Gambler by Fyodor Dostoevsky from 1866, The New Magdalen by Wilkie Collins from 1873, The Possessed (Devils) by Fyodor Dostoevsky from 1873, The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy from 1878, The Prophet’s Mantle by Fabian Bland (E. Nesbit) from 1885, Germinal by Émile Zola from 1885, The Circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rinehart from 1908, The Camomile by Catherine Carswell from 1922.
