Some of my readers have asked me to list my favorite books of the ones I’ve reviewed, so I decided to announce a weekly favorite. Since I haven’t done that so far, I thought I would post this special message listing my favorites for every week since I started. My criterion is simply whatever book I enjoyed reading most of the ones I chose for the week. That is a fairly arbitrary decision, since some weeks have two or more strong candidates while other weeks have none as strong. Sadly, nonfiction will be at a disadvantage because even though I may find it interesting, it isn’t likely to pull me in the way fiction does, so you nonfiction fans should pay absolutely no attention to this list! Those are my two caveats for the list, so, here goes!
- Week 1: A tie! The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet by David Mitchell and The Darkest Room by Johan Theorin
- Week 2: Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson
- Week 3: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
- Week 4: Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
- Week 5: The Dead Lie Down by Sophie Hannah
- Week 6: Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
- Week 7: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
- Week 8: The Winter Palace by Eva Stachniak
- Week 9: A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
- Week 10: Blacklands by Belinda Bauer
- Week 11: With Fire and Sword by Henryk Sienkiewicz
- Week 12: Grave Goods by Ariana Franklin
- Week 13: The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett
- Week 14: The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
- Week 15: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
- Week 16: Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
Thanks for the tips!
You’re welcome. Your movie reviews look pretty good, too!
