As I do on all my anniversaries, today is the day I list the ten best books that I reviewed this year. This list is always difficult. I do not favor any particular genres but simply select the ten books I enjoyed most during the previous year. I won’t pick more than one book by the same author.
So, in no order except the one in which I reviewed them, here is my top 10 list!
- Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf
- A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler
- Fair Helen by Andrew Greig
- Some Do Not by Ford Madox Ford
- History of the Rain by Niall Williams
- Family Roundabout by Richmal Crompton
- The Perpetual Curate by Margaret Oliphant
- Rush Oh! by Shirley Barrett
- H Is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald
- An Officer and a Spy by Robert Harris
Great to find someone else who’s read Family Roundabout, I loved it!
Yes, I think I heard about it from the podcast Tea or Books.
I’ve only read three books from your list – Fair Helen, Family Roundabout and An Officer and a Spy – but I loved all three. I’ll have to try some of your others!
Let me know what you read and what you think of it.
I’ve only read Our Souls at Night (which I also loved). Because of the number of books you read, I always know these 10 books must be good ones!
I bet you would love some of them!
Oh, Happy 5th ‘Blirthday’! 🙂
Thanks!
I’m a big fan of Niall Williams – good to see him on your list!
This book was great! I have read another once since, although I haven’t reviewed it yet.
And a happy birthday too!
Thanks!
