WWW Wednesday!

It’s the first Wednesday of the month, so it’s time for WWW Wednesday, an idea I borrowed from David Chazan, The Chocolate Lady, who borrowed it from someone else. For this feature, I report

  • What I am reading now
  • What I just finished reading
  • What I intend to read next

This is something you can participate in, too, if you want, by leaving comments about what you’ve been reading or plan to read.

What I am reading now

I am reading The Town House by Norah Lofts. It’s the first book in Lofts’ Suffolk Trilogy. It begins in the 14th century with a serf escaping serfdom, much like Cathedral of the Sea. I looked for a book by Lofts after finishing her book Lady Living Alone, which I really enjoyed.

What I just finished reading

I just finished reading Beggar’s Choice by Patricia Wentworth. Although I had difficulty getting started because it was so obvious that someone was trying to frame the oblivious main character, it turned out to be a pretty good read.

What I will read next

I guess I’m on a roll with classic novels, because the book I will probably read next is Death in Ambush by Susan Gilruth. I think I bought this book to read for the Christmas season and apparently forgot to do that!

  1. The cover for Death in Ambush is exceptionally beautiful, even for a BLCC reissue. Whoever is in charge of their cover design is a genius and needs a raise.

    1. I had only read her This Was a Man (or something like that) about Sir Walter Raleigh and didn’t find it that interesting before I read her contemporary thriller. I’ve finished it now. Both were good!

    1. I guess that when it arrived, I just forgot what I was doing and stuck it in the pile. I get behind on my normal reading leading up to November because of Novellas in November and Nonfiction November.

  2. What I am reading now: Emily of Deep Valley, by Maud Hart Lovelace, the story of Emily Webster, an orphan living with her grandfather. I saw this book mentioned in Mitali Perkin’s Steeped in Stories and new straight away that I wanted to read it.

What I just finished reading: a translation of Seeing Further by German author Esther Kinsky, in which she tells the story of renovating an abandoned cinema in Hungary. This might sound a bit bland, but the language is beautiful and insightful comments are inserted throughout.

What I plan to read next: The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow, the story of Mary Bennet. I have heard so many positive reviews of this book, including from my mother!
